The Magnolia Amateur Radio Club or MARC is a tax-exempt, volunteer association located in Starkville, Mississippi. MARC advocates the practice of amateur radio as a hobby and the use of it for public service. All persons, whether licensed hams or not, are welcomed to MARC monthly meetings. Starkville is the home of Mississippi State University and the prominent amateur radio manufacturer, MFJ Enterprises. MARC cooperates with W5YD, the MSU Amateur Radio Club, one of the oldest "ham" radio clubs in the South, in several activities. Joint VE examinations are held as per the W5YD website schedule. FCC exams can be taken and graded on-site by Volunteer Examiners. Further details can be found at

Many licensed hams in the Starkville area benefit from having MFJ Enterprises located here. MFJ has hired a number of MSU graduates and tours of MFJ factories are periodic perks enjoyed by MARC members. The MFJ founder sponsors MARC's Martin F. Jue Amateur Radio Award given annually to the top young and adult hams in the Starkville area. Other technology companies in the Golden Triangle Area as well as research centers at MSU provide a rich environment for amateur radio enthusiasts regardless of age.

Annual Field Day activities are sometimes held jointly with W5YD. This two-day, around the clock, operation is where Club members establish an emergency scenario set of stations to communicate with the world under "field" conditions. The public is invited to watch and actually participate on the air during annual Field Day! During 2010, the Club placed 2nd in the state in terms of contest points awarded based upon criteria set by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL).

Come join us at our monthly meeting! You will find members interested in meeting you, finding out your interest in amateur radio, and helping you to enjoy and advance in the hobby.
